Part 6 - James 1:14-18
Series: Formed under pressure
Big idea:
Where does temptation come from?
What happens when we give into it?
How do we overcome it?
Main Point: Do not be deceived
Prophetic Thought: We face temptation everyday. We recognize the big ones that everyone talks about. We battle our own temptations every day. We see where other people have given into theirs. Temptation does not come from God. We often blame Satan and other people for tempting us, but most of the time it actually comes from our own evil desires. We have no one to blame but ourselves. When we give into our desires, it turns into sin which leads to death and separation. We struggle to hear God, to find his purpose and direction for us. We hurt people that are close to us. Our actions lead us to losing a job or promotion. We cheat or lie to preserve ourselves and it ends up making things worse. It becomes a vicious cycle, because we are experiencing sin and death we keep pursuing our own desires, leading back to sin and death. The only way out is to recognize that all good things come only from God and to be transformed by Jesus’ work on the cross.
