Palm Sunday

Big idea: Learning to empty our hands today, so we are ready for what God is raising tomorrow.

Main Point: Lay down your coat.

Prophetic Thought: From family treasures to clutter, we as Americans love to hold onto stuff. There are now more storage units in this country than McDonald’s and Starbucks combined. Things change, life moves forward, and what once held value might change, but we are reminded this Palm Sunday that we follow a Savior who laid down everything for us. The very distractions of our life don’t compare to the life we can find in Jesus. When we finally let go of what we’ve been carrying, we find a hope that never fades and a King who never leaves. This is the hope worthy of celebration.

Application: This Palm Sunday, we are reminded that our hope is eternal and that Jesus rules and reigns. With our eyes and hearts fixed on Him, we acknowledge those places that might have taken us off track. The clutter life brings—such as overly busy schedules, frustrations, or even the apathy of faith—can weigh us down. We intentionally choose to lay down the mantle of fitting in or the need for approval. But what we need to lay down might not always be "bad." It might be the ambitions, hopes, or dreams that we have let slip through our fingers. Today, we place those back into the hands of the One who holds our future.
