Big idea: Living on autopilot

Main Point: Fact check

Prophetic Thought: Humans are wired to be creatures of habit. We pray before dinner, we have the same breakfast every morning, we wear a uniform to work, we leave our backpacks and bags in the same spot everyday. These habits often keep us safe and remind us to do the important things. When we turn those habits to autopilot, we find ourselves driving to the wrong place, showing up on the wrong day or forgetting something we were supposed to do. Faith in autopilot can lead us to the wrong lane or the wrong highway altogether. We find ourselves living the same way we did before we followed Jesus. We start looking like everyone around us who isn’t following Jesus, back in chains and holding on to burdens. But if we are willing to turn off our autopilot and hand it back over to God, we will have freedom again.

Application: How do we know if we’re on autopilot? We fact check.  Do we feel heavy burdens that we won’t let others help us carry,  fall for misinformation from others (friends, family, Christian influencers, etc.), have little compassion for others, feel like we’re at the end of our rope all the time or live only for ourselves and what we want? Or do we experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control? Test yourself and see if you are living in and for the world or if you are living with the fruit of the Spirit.
