Jacob Powers
Lead Teaching Pastor
Jacob is the Founding Pastor of The Heights Church, serving alongside his wife, Kym, and their two teenage sons. A veteran who found Christ later in life, Jacob is passionate about helping people follow Jesus by living out their faith both inside and outside the church. Within the community, he serves as a Chaplain for the Airway Heights Police and Fire Departments and leads on the mat as a wrestling coach for Kingdom Wrestling and the local middle school team. Whether he is learning Spanish to better connect with churches in Mexico or exploring his family property in Fruitland, Jacob’s life is defined by active service. His mission is to see people discover their true identity in Christ and walk out their faith in their everyday lives.

Anchor Passage: James 1:21 NLT 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.
Prophetic Thought: Doing for ourselves seems like the right choice in a very busy world. Doing anything more than what we are already doing feels taxing and exhausting. Maybe it is because our priorities are misaligned. God’s free gift of grace does not require payment or anything from us at all. Yet, when we do what He says, there is a blessing that comes—not because you are impressing God, but because you are being faithful to follow and do what His Word encourages.
James 1:22-25 NLT 22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
Proverbs 12:15 (NLT): "Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others."
1 Peter 5:5: "In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
